Core capabilities include verification and validation (V&V) of coupled DA and forecast systems; Observing System Experiments (OSEs/OSSEs) to quantify the impact of satellite and in-situ observing networks; uncertainty quantification to diagnose analysis and forecast error growth and sensitivity; and evaluation of AI/ML components within DA workflows for bias, robustness, and explainability. ESS supports NOAA EMC and NOAA QOSAP in coupled DA development and JEDI applications, delivering HPC-enabled workflows. We serve as a specialty subcontractor providing surge proposal support and independent technical expertise.
